Killing Me

Quite possibly the best feeling as a songwriter is to have an entire song – lyrics, melody, the works – come into your head at the same time, AND to be able to make enough sense of the resulting internal cacophony to write something down that is sufficiently legible that it can be turned into music later on. One evening back in 2008, Jonathan was at work, bored stiff, and decided to write a song. An even better feeling than that? Playing the song for the band and having them make it even better – that guitar riff is a very late, and much-appreciated, addition. Many will ask who the subject of “Killing Me” is: anyone who gives you grief for being exactly who you are.

Lyrics

How can you say, beyond a reasonable doubt, that I'm guilty?
How can you profess to know the inner workings of my mind?
How can you say this noose you're tying won't just kill me?
How can you say that this noose you're tying won't unwind?

Baby, your lies are just killing me (killing me).
I can't disguise that you're killing (killing me, killing me)!
No surprise that I'm
Willing to say I despise you
Now I realize that you're killing me.

Baby, all you wanna do is run around and have some fun,
But maybe your wings of wax are too close to the sun.
Baby, I'm just not the kinda guy to buy a diamond ring.
Diamonds are a girl's best friend, but they're not everything.

Baby, your lies are just killing me (killing me).
I can't disguise that you're killing (killing me, killing me)!
No surprise that I'm
Willing to say I despise you
Now I realize that you're killing me.
