There are a number of songs on this album that talk about things that actually happened – storytelling is a very difficult craft to master, unless you’re simply telling the truth. In the case of “Comes Around,” more of the lyrics are about actual events than one may initially think. To give the tune the pensive feel that we all thought it needed, we wanted to let the guitar and the vocals take centre stage, and so we married a soft organ part with a gentle drum patter; the result is one of the more reflective tunes on the album.
And watch out for Bob Dylan.

Written Earlier That Day
At the Savannah Room on October 18th, 2008 we played Comes Around live for the first time ever after Jeff finished writing it earlier in the day and the band played it together for the first time in soundcheck. Went pretty well, if I do say so myself. MP3

Lyrics
Rainy day woman, number 52,
Takes a field trip to the laundry room.
Outside, her man is looking for a fight.
Let's hope he gets one, before he comes home tonight.
I don't wanna be there when he comes around.
I don't wanna be there when he comes around.
I saw a couple in the parking lot.
They looked so out of it - I don't know what they've done.
Knock on my window in the middle of the night;
They're quick anger, and quick to fight.
I don't wanna be there when they come around.
I don't wanna be there when they come around.
I'm in a mess, I just want to talk a while.
I'll explain the rest when I get to see you smile.
When I get off the phone, I'm gonna get in the car.
It wont be long, you really don't live that far.
I hope you'll be there when I come around.
I hope you'll be there when I come around.
'Cause you know I'd be there if you came around
'Cause you know I'd be there if you came around
