Once again, a bit of time has passed since the last update here. While The Printing Press has been on a bit of a light playing schedule as of late due to work on our upcoming album ‘Worth Imagining’, we have played a couple times in the last few months, once at Rancho Relaxo and recently at The Central along with our friends in Photolight.

On November 8th, we will be playing a charity show in support of Horizons for Youth at Grace O Malleys Pub (14 Duncan Street, Toronto). Tickets will be $10 in advance (details to follow) and $15 at the door. All proceeds go to Horizons for Youth, in support of Horizons, an organization that reaches out to at-risk youth providing food, shelter and assistance in getting their lives on track. Our set will be at 7PM.

In album news, things are progressing and moving towards their conclusion. We have taken extra time in the mixing process to make the songs as good as they can be and do justice to the performances recorded. Obviously this has taken longer than first expected (see last post) but we hope to have things wrapping up relatively soon and if all goes according to plan, a big album release show before Christmas!

Album News and Upcoming Show

The Printing Press hasn’t played a show since March at the Neutral Lounge for Canadian Music Week. What have we been up to since then? Recording an album, is what. Twelve songs were recorded in two basements, a living room and a sauna across Toronto. With a few little bits left to record and most songs currently in the mixing process we should have some tracks online to listen to very soon.

To hear these songs before they go online and before the likely summer release of the album, come check out The Printing Press playing with Caitlin Burgess Saturday May 23rd at The Central, located at 603 Markham St. near Bathurst and Bloor. Doors are at 9, Caitlin Burgess will play around 9:30 and we will be on around 10:30. As always, we hope you can make it out and expect it to be a great show at a venue we’ve never played before.

The Printing Press played a show in February which was a huge success at the now-closed Savannah Room followed by a slot in Canadian Music week at the Neutral Lounge. Both these shows escaped getting a proper write-up here, and to catch up, here is the poster from the Savannah February show, created for us by Dara.

Fifty-Eight Pianos at the Smiling Buddha

Here is the first video of a set from the Smiling Buddha on January 21st, 2009. This features a newly revamped version of Fifty-Eight Pianos played live for the first time! Enjoy!

January 21st, Smiling Buddha

On Wednesday January 21st, 2009, The Printing Press will play at the Smiling Buddha Bar (961 College Street, Toronto). The night begins at 9:00PM and starts with Taylor Mitchell followed by Trevor Campbell. The show is pay what you can.

The Local Nov 22, 2008 Live Recording

Well, better late than never. Here is the recording from our November show at The Local Pub – our first show with bassist James Everett. It was a great show, and while the recordings are a little below our usual quality, you can hear a number of new songs. The Printing Press Has Bass and We’re Playing The Local

Come to The Local for new songs, an augmented lineup and a great show!

On Saturday November 22nd, The Printing Press will be playing at The Local Pub, a great little place at 396 Roncesvalles Avenue as The Printing Press plus one new member – James Everett on bass! We’ve been playing together for a little while and he’ll be making his debut at this show. James is a great guy, a great musician, and adding the bass really adds to our sound. We’re really excited about this, and hopefully we can get a good crowd out to The Local to hear this new setup, and hear a bunch of new songs we’ll be playing that night.

As a little background and plug for James, he is the front of metheus Bound, a great band that we’ve played with before back on July 16th at the Smiling Buddha. He writes, sings and plays guitar in that band (he’s trading in 6 strings for 4 with us) and really produces some fantastic music. They’re a great band to see live and their album is also fantastic. You can listen to tunes, find out about shows and buy the album over at their website

So we’re very excited and look forward to playing and recording more soon!

With this post we’re now all caught up with posting live recordings. The sound quality and balance of instruments on this is probably the best yet, so check it out!

We didn’t talk about this show on the site, but it was a huge success. Filling the Savannah Room is always fun, and thanks go out to everyone who came out to support us!

Rancho Relaxo Sept 10th, 2008 Live Recording

We’re doing a little bit of catch-up with the posting of recordings here. This is a recording from our show at Rancho Relaxo on September 10th. In less than a week The Printing Press will be playing Wednesday September 10th at Rancho Relaxo (300 College Street, Toronto). Doors are at 9:00PM and we are the second of three bands. The show is pay what you can, if you want.
